The third wave of the novel coronavirus has begun in Seoul. This was stated by the representative of the Ministry of Health and Welfare Yun Tae Ho, reports TASS.

According to the official, the number of new infections in the capital of South Korea over the past day amounted to 218, which is the highest figure since the beginning of August. Yoon Tae Ho said the authorities are considering raising the level of social distancing.

Prime Minister Jong Se Kyun urged citizens to refrain from holding mass events, including New Year's parties, and company leaders not to hold joint events after work and to increase the number of employees working remotely. Citizens over 60 are advised to minimize walks and meetings in winter.

Earlier, Denis Protsenko, the chief physician of hospital No. 40 in Moscow's Kommunarka, gave a forecast for the third wave of coronavirus in Russia. In his opinion, it will start around March and will be weaker than the previous one. Protsenko noted that the spring wave will be “less saturated, less violent in terms of the number of cases.” He suggested that the end of the epidemic may be closer to June, if an effective vaccine against COVID-19 appears in the spring.
