The General Staff of the Russian Navy (Navy) wants to speed up the exit of the aircraft carrier “Admiral Kuznetsov” from repair. An informed source told TASS about this.
According to the interlocutor of the agency, on December 11, a meeting was held at the Main Command of the Navy, during which proposals were considered to accelerate the launch of a heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser for testing after restoration work and modernization. The reason for the discussion was the issue of training pilots of carrier-based aircraft.
In December, the American magazine The National Interest ranked the Admiral Kuznetsov among the five most dangerous ships of the Russian Navy, which “should not be underestimated” as “they have serious firepower”. The publication is confident that the aircraft carrier “remains a serious threat to the Kremlin's competitors, since it gives Russia much more opportunities to project its aviation around the world.”
In December 2019, The National Interest called “Admiral Kuznetsov” and other Soviet cruisers of Project 1143 “Krechet” “just a piece of rust.”
The heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser “Admiral Kuznetsov” burned down in December 2019. In October 2018, a floating dock used to repair an aircraft carrier sank. The ship is now undergoing restoration, its transfer to the fleet is scheduled for 2022. The cost of restoring the “Admiral Kuznetsov” will be about 350 million rubles.
