In the Rivne region, the legitimacy of the actions of the security forces of the SBU, who opened fire on five men, is being checked. Their intelligence officers suspected them of illegal mining of amber.

The incident occurred on the evening of February 10 near the village of Yelnoe, Sarninsky district. Five amber miners began to resist at the request of the security forces to check the data on their activities outside the village.

According to preliminary information, local men attacked the SBU officers not only with their fists, but also with knives, axes and a chainsaw. At this time, they began to shoot at them from firearms.

As of February 11, all five amber miners are in the hospital. Now their health is not in danger.

“Four of them had their legs injured, and one of the injured had a forearm wound,” the report said.

The severity of the injuries received will be established soon. Previously, the event was qualified under Part 2 of Art. 365 (Exceeding official authority with the use of weapons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The sanction of the article provides not only deprivation of the right to hold certain positions, but also a real term of imprisonment from three to eight years.
