Police in the Italian city of Cagliari have detained 40 members of the Nigerian mafia , who illegally smuggled money to Africa.

The Nigerian mafia in Italy specializes in prostitution and trafficking in women. According to police, the mafiosi sent some of the money received from prostitution in pasta boxes and luggage handles on wheels. Already in Nigeria, their funds were invested in real estate.
Law enforcement officials believe that the Nigerian mafia in Italy, in terms of influence and financial capabilities, has almost reached the level of the three largest mafia clans in the country, and namely “Ndrangheta” from Calabria, “Cosa Nostra” from Sicily and “Comorra” from Campania (region near Naples).
