They don't know where to hide the planes anymore: what difficulties Russia is still experiencing after Operation Spider Web

Key points

  • Russia is forced to move aircraft to the far north after the SBU's Operation Spider Web to avoid attacks from Ukraine.
  • The relocation of aircraft to the Ukrainka airfield and the base in Anadyr makes it difficult to carry out missile strikes on Ukraine due to the remoteness and limited resources.
  • Russia is forced to look for new places to deploy its aircraft.

The Russians have begun to redeploy their aircraft to the far north after the SBU operation “Web”. They are talking about the “Ukrainka” airfield, from which Russian planes will be forced to fly thousands of kilometers to launch missiles.

After the strikes in December 2022, Russia moved its aircraft to Olenya. Aviation expert Konstantin Krivolap told Channel 24 about this, noting that the Kremlin thought that Ukraine would never get there.

How many more missiles can Russia fire from its “Tushkas”?

Already in 2025, the Defense Forces attacked the Engels airfield. The Russians were seriously scared again, removed their ships and changed their location again. Now they realized that they would not be able to escape, so they just needed to hide their planes as far away as possible.

They decided that the Ukrainka base would help somehow, since there is transport there. It is interesting that during Operation Spider Web, one truck with drones did not arrive. And now the Russians have flown the Tu-160 to the base in Anadyr, which has no road connection at all, the aviation expert emphasized.

You can get there only by ship or plane. Now it is there and at the “Ukrainka” base that Russian ships are stationed. In order to carry out a strike on our country with X-101 missiles, the occupiers need to return to the European part of Russia. Land in “Engels” or refuel in the air.

Otherwise, they will not be able to fly, launch missiles and return back. There will not be enough fuel. But, most likely, now the occupiers will launch no more than 10-15 cruise missiles, – emphasized Konstantin Krivolap.

This is an expensive background for carrying out attacks on Ukraine. After all, we are talking about aircraft that have long outlived their usefulness. They are no longer capable of doing anything serious.

Let us recall that as a result of Operation “Web”, more than 40 Russian strategic aviation aircraft were hit at several airfields at once. In particular, the “Olenya” airfield was under attack, from where Russia constantly launched missiles at Ukraine.
