What to expect from the arrival of Macron, Scholz and Draghi/Andrey Yermak's telegrams< p _ngcontent-sc88="" class="news-annotation">There are two important things to expect from the arrival of the leaders of France, Germany and Italy. This may be a powerful signal of an increase in arms supplies and granting Ukraine the status of a candidate member of the European Union.

Political scientist Taras Semenyuk spoke about this on Channel 24. He stressed that the visit of the leaders of the three EU states unequivocally testifies to the support of Ukraine . Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz and Mario Draghi, with their arrival, demonstrate a further increase in the dynamics of the supply of weapons, as well as support for Ukraine in its aspirations for the European Union.

Candidacy for EU membership

According to Mr. Semenyuk, now is the ideal time to grant Ukraine the status of an EU candidate. After all, the people are fighting not only for the return of their own territories, but also for the prospect of further development. And granting this status will confirm that Europe listens to the choice of the Ukrainian people, which also protects them from war.

It is clear that this prospect should be converted into a candidate for membership in the European Union. And it is unlikely that the glorious gentlemen from the most developed EU countries – Italy, France and Germany – would come here with bad news. If we are refused, it would be better not to make such a visit, because it threatens their personal reputational capital, – said Taras Semenyuk.

The political scientist stressed that the candidacy for EU membership will not be easy . In this case, we can mention Turkey, which received this status back in 1999, but is still not in the EU. However, each country has its own history, path and prospects for joining the European Union.

In his opinion, the history of joining Ukraine will be exactly different from the same Turkey.

Let's add that after Taras Semenyuk's commentary for Channel 24, Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz and Mario Draghi testified in Kyiv that they support granting Ukraine candidate EU membership status. Romania has the same position, whose President Klaus Iogannis joined the visit.

On June 17, the European Commission will provide a conclusion on the possible status of Ukraine. And next week the decision will be made by the European Council.
