Traditionally at Christmas, all mobile phone providers bring out new tariffs and offers. The comparison shows which of these are really worthwhile.
Christmas time is traditionally a good time to check your cell phone tariff and evaluate cheaper offers. All major network operators as well as some discounters are currently again offering lucrative holiday specials. “We are seeing a clear opening in the direction of 5G these days: The discounts on 5G-enabled smartphones are currently particularly eye-catching. On the one hand, the network operators are promoting their hardware sales and at the same time laying the groundwork for the spread of 5G” Maximilian Schirmer, managing director of tarife.at.
“While the tariffs of the premium providers have not become cheaper everywhere, cheaper tariffs now also contain unlimited 5G data volume. Customers are therefore currently benefiting from more performance at the same price: They receive inexpensive top smartphones in combination with unlimited 5G data. Internet, “says Schirmer. The “big ones” among the mobile phone providers, A1, Magenta and Drei, are currently giving discounts on the very latest smartphones. This means that the iPhone 12 currently costs an average of 20.1 percent less than when it was launched a month and a half ago.
The Samsung Galaxy A51 and the Samsung Galaxy A71 are particularly cheap at the moment, the average price of which has fallen by 52.8 and 37.4 percent respectively since the end of October 2020. But the Huawei P40 Pro + is now also noticeably cheaper by an average of 34.4 percent, just like its little brother P40 Pro, with a reduction of 33.3 percent. Even though the associated tariffs were often not cheaper, customers now get more for the same money – e.g. 5G connection with unlimited data volume. Customers of A1, Magenta and Drei currently save the activation fee, which is usually EUR 49.90, according to tarife.at.
Cell phone discounters such as bob, yesss or spusu have also launched new tariff offers. Customers save up to 20 percent on the standard tariff. The offers are usually valid until January 6th, but in the past they were mostly extended until the end of January. While roaming offers, for example, currently do not play a role, the focus in this year's Christmas tariffs is clearly on the data units included. tarife.at has calculated that the gigabyte price in the low price segment has currently leveled off at around 50 cents. Discount providers can currently get 20 gigabytes in the LTE network for just 10 euros.
“The best offer for the TikTok youngsters”, says tarife.at, is the iPhone 12 for 659 euros in combination with the tariff A1 Xcite S including 27 gigabytes for 19.9 euros basic fee or effectively 49.73 euros per month. For young mobile phone gamers, the Samsung Galaxy S20 is recommended for 384 euros in combination with the Mobile Youth S tariff from Magenta including 25 gigabytes, for a basic fee of 20 euros or, effectively, 38.38 euros per month. And parents benefit above all from the Samsung Galaxy A51 free of charge in combination with the X-mas bob tariff including 20 gigabytes for a basic fee of EUR 18.9 or an effective EUR 20.98 per month.
