On the night of June 27, a drone attack was reported in the Russian city of Novokuibyshevsk, which was confirmed by the local governor. At the same time, Russian authorities claim that there are allegedly no casualties, but the details of the damage remain unknown.
The incident once again highlights the vulnerability of Russian industrial infrastructure, in particular fuel and energy facilities. Drone strikes increasingly target regions where oil refining production is concentrated, Channel 24 reports, citing Russian Telegram channels.
Drones attack facility near oil refinery
Samara Region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed the drone attack on Novokuibyshevsk on Friday night. He claims that the drones were trying to hit an industrial facility in Novokuibyshevsk. Rosneft's oil refinery is located there. The refinery's capacity is about 8.8 million tons of oil per year. According to Fedorishchev, emergency services are working at the scene. There is no information yet about any injuries or fatalities.
Russian media reported that restrictions were imposed at the local Kurumoch airport due to the drone attack. The authorities did not specify the details of such restrictions or the impact on air traffic. This is not the first time that air traffic in the region has been stopped due to the threat of strikes. The Russian Defense Ministry announced the “destruction” of 39 drones on the night of June 27. Most of them were allegedly shot down over the Rostov and Volgograd regions.
Recall that Ukraine uses drones to attack Russian military facilities, including fuel and energy complexes. Vladislav Seleznev noted that Ukrainian attacks are aimed at reducing the enemy's potential on Ukrainian territory. Washington probably wanted to avoid Ukrainian strikes on Russian facilities, but Russia does not adhere to agreements.
