There were 19 people on board the Russian dry cargo ship detained in the English Channel, they were allowed to go ashore. Such details are reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Russian Embassy in France.
Information also appeared about the reasons for the detention of the vessel: the French authorities were interested in the documents of a dry cargo ship allegedly owned by a company from the US sanctions list. However, customs inspection was named as the formal reason for the interception.
The embassy noted that the decision on the fate of the dry cargo ship will be made in court. Russian diplomats will send a note of protest to the French Foreign Ministry and take measures to protect the sailors.
Earlier on Saturday, February 26, the Maritime Prefecture of France reported the interception of a Russian cargo ship in the English Channel. Later, the Russian embassy in Paris explained that the diplomatic mission received an urgent call from the captain of the ship, in which he spoke about the detention.
