The world's oldest man prepares for his 113th birthday
Puerto Rican Emilio Flores Márquez was recognized as the oldest living male. Representatives of the Guinness Book of Records presented him with a certificate stating his age: 112 years and 326 days. In August, he should turn 113 years old, according to the organization's website.
He was born on August 8, 1908 in Carolina, Puerto Rico. He has 10 brothers and sisters, among whom he is the second oldest. His father had a sugarcane farm where Emilio had worked since childhood. He also took care of the younger children. As an adult, the man continued to engage in agriculture.
He was married to Andrea Perez, their marriage lasted 75 years, until his wife passed away in 2010. They had four children, two of whom are still alive. Now the record holder has five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Emilio currently lives in Rio Piedras, where the children are taking care of him. He is almost deaf, but has not complained of health since he was implanted with a pacemaker in 2010. They call him “Don Millo”. He considers the secret of his longevity to be a life of love and without anger.
The oldest resident of the world among living people is Kane Tanaka from Japan, who was born on January 2, 1903. Her record was confirmed in 2020 when she was 117 years old. She is now 118 years old.
