A resident of the Dominican Republic fulfilled her dream by rehearsing her own funeral. According to the Daily Mail, she came under fire on social media.
In late April, 59-year-old Mayra Alonzo organized a fake funeral for herself in her hometown of Santiago. The woman rented a coffin for the day and invited relatives and friends to the ceremony. She put on a white robe, put a wreath of flowers on her head, lay down in a coffin and closed her eyes, pretending to be dead. The Dominican woman periodically plugged her nostrils with cotton, imitating the way a corpse was treated in a morgue.
In the footage from the funeral, relatives and friends can be seen smiling and filming what is happening on their phones, while Alonzo lies in a half-closed white coffin. The woman said that she spent about 60 thousand Mexican pesos (221.4 thousand rubles) to organize a fake funeral. According to the Dominican woman, the dream came true thanks to her relatives, close friends and neighbors.
“If I die tomorrow, I don’t want anyone to organize a funeral for me, because I have already done everything during my lifetime,” Alonzo said. She also jokingly advised her loved ones not to die in the near future, since it is very lonely in the coffin.
Social network users criticized the act of the Dominican woman. Commentators said the woman has chosen a bad time to hold a fake funeral, while many people are dying from COVID-19. However, Alonzo explained that it was the mass deaths due to the coronavirus that gave her the idea of enjoying life in such an unusual way.
Earlier, the woman arranged a fake funeral for a former lover in prison in order to deceive his mistress. The woman organized a funeral event with the support of the prisoner's sister.
