So, Maria Paz Fuentes Fernandez died on June 2. She used her obituary in the local print media to address friends and family. “Since I have not been in contact with my blood family for a long time, I declare in my last will and testament that only the people mentioned below can attend my funeral service, be it in a funeral home, church or cemetery,” the woman wrote.
The message was followed by 15 names and a signature: “For everyone else who never cared about my life: I want you to continue to live away from me as before.” The obituary was posted in the El Progreso newspaper.
In early June, a 75-year-old resident of the Indian city of Jaggayapeta returned home the next day after relatives deemed her dead from COVID-19 and mistakenly cremated another person's body. The husband confused the body of the deceased woman with his wife, whom he simply did not find in the hospital bed.
