A resident of the American city of Chattanooga, Tennessee, graduated from the university 42 years after she attended the first class. By coincidence, her 22-year-old granddaughter received her bachelor's degree in the same year, CNN reports.
Pat Ormond, who turns 75 in December, enrolled at Kennesaw State University 42 years ago. After studying for one semester, she dropped out and moved to Chattanooga. For several decades she worked as an accountant and took care of the family.
From time to time, the woman attended classes at the local university, and her relatives often persuaded her to return to the walls of the educational institution to get a degree. After retiring, Ormond finally decided to fulfill her dream. This decision was influenced by the fact that her granddaughter wanted to transfer to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Members of the same family studied at different faculties, and before the pandemic they rarely managed to catch each other between classes, however, the situation with the coronavirus made its own adjustments, and at some point they began to study remotely. “It's definitely more difficult, I prefer face-to-face training,” Pat admitted. She added that she enjoyed participating in discussions and interacting with different people.
The pensioner hopes that her example will inspire others. “The learning process never ends – my father taught me this,” she said, noting that she always knew that sooner or later she would graduate from the university. The woman added that she does not intend to be content with what has been achieved and plans to get a degree in history in the near future.
