The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced a record rise in the number of deaths from coronavirus. So, in a week, 93,882 deaths from COVID-19 were registered in the world. The growth rate was nine percent compared to the previous week and was the highest since the beginning of the pandemic, data is available on the official website of WHO.
An increase in mortality was recorded in all six regions of the organization. From 11 to 17 January, 4.7 million new cases were detected, which is six percent less than a week earlier. Infections are on the rise in Africa, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Western Pacific. In North and South America, Europe, Southeast Asia, this indicator began to decline during this period.
According to the organization, in the world during the entire pandemic, 94,124,612 people were diagnosed with coronavirus, more than two million have died. Most of the infected were in the United States (23.5 million), India (10.5 million), Brazil (8.4 million), Russia (3.6 million) and the UK (3.4 million).
Earlier, WHO emergency expert Mike Ryan called for preparing for 100,000 coronavirus deaths a week. According to him, North and South America together account for more than 47 percent of deaths and their number is growing. In Europe, mortality is stabilizing – albeit at a high level.
