Russia, in the event of an invasion of Ukraine, could capture the major cities of this country, including Kiev. This was stated by assistant to US President Joe Biden for national security Jake Sullivan, reports RIA Novosti.
The representative of the White House said that there is a high probability of capturing a significant territory of Ukraine and large cities. However, he did not develop this topic in any way.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced a high risk of aggression against Ukraine, which allegedly exists on the part of Russia. As the Secretary General said, the alliance is united and ready for any scenario, ensuring the protection of all allies.
Prior to this, the former commander of US troops in Europe, General Ben Hodges, said that in the event of an invasion of Ukraine, Russia is unlikely to launch a large-scale offensive, it is rather trying to pull troops along the border. The military expressed doubts that Moscow has the resources to launch a full-fledged invasion. “Russia is squeezing Ukraine like a boa constrictor is squeezing its victim… But I don’t expect a large-scale attack,” he suggested.
