The United States believes that China will not help Russia cope with the sanctions of Western countries. This was stated by a senior representative of the White House during a telephone briefing, reports Reuters.
According to him, the latest signs indicate that the PRC will not come to the aid of Moscow. Yesterday or the day before yesterday, there were reports that China was restricting some of its banks from issuing loans to purchase energy resources in Russia, an American official said. “This could mean that, as it has done in the past for many years, China is inclined to respect the strength of US sanctions,” he stressed.
Earlier, the German government announced that Western countries agreed to disconnect Russian banks from the SWIFT international payment system. It is specified that banks that are under sanctions will be excluded. Also, “if necessary”, the list of credit institutions can be expanded.
In addition, it was reported that the United States, the EU, Britain and Canada agreed to put in place joint measures against Russia in the coming days. In particular, it was decided to create a “task force” that will ensure the effective operation of the sanctions.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation to protect Donbass. His press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that its goal is the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, and the timing of the special operation will be determined by the supreme commander.
