U.S. National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby emphasized that other versions of ATACMS missiles provided by the United States were used by Ukrainian troops "to benefit".
On Thursday, February 22, the White House confirmed the possibility of transferring longer-range ATACAMS ballistic missiles to Ukraine.
US National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby announced this at a briefing, Ukrinform reports.
“We have previously provided Ukraine with a version of ATACMS missiles known as APAMs [anti-infantry and materiel missiles], and they have put them to good use,” a White House official noted.
John Kirby emphasized that equipping the Ukrainian army with longer-range ATACMS versions was never off the table.
“This is still an integral part of the discussions that we are having with the Ukrainian side. Ukraine does have such capabilities, and other countries have provided it with similar long-range weapons. Therefore, we are still discussing with Ukrainians regarding the longer-range version of ATACMS,” he noted.
In the fall of 2023, the United States delivered ATACMS missiles with a range of up to 165 km to Ukraine.
Recall that earlier the NBC News channel, citing two American officials, reported that the Biden administration is working to provide Ukraine with new powerful ATACMS long-range ballistic missiles.
