White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki at a briefing for journalists commented on the possibility of a meeting between US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, RIA Novosti reports.
Psaki stressed that she has nothing to announce about contacts with Russia at the highest level. The United States will make decisions on further dialogue with the country after the meeting of Secretary of State Anthony Blinken with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“I have nothing to predict on this front… I expect that when Secretary Blinken returns, they will discuss the next steps with the national security team,” the White House spokeswoman said.
Earlier in January, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that there was no readiness for a conversation between Biden and Putin on security guarantees yet. “I repeat once again, the overall picture has not been drawn up yet, it would be naive to believe that one round of negotiations will give an exhaustive result, but there are not so many reasons for optimism yet, the work will continue,” he stressed.
