Biden faces one of the most difficult phases of his presidency and re-election campaign.
White House acknowledges poor performance in debate of the current head of state Joe Biden. However, they emphasize that he can hold office and run for president USA.
This was reported by CNN with reference to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
“First of all, I want to say that we understand the concern. We understand it. The President did not have a wonderful night,” she emphasized.
The publication writes that Biden is now faced with one of the most difficult stages of his presidency and the re-election campaign. The White House says the president will appear at two events next week: an interview with ABC and a solo news conference at the NATO summit in Washington. Such unplanned events are rare for Biden, who has lagged behind his recent predecessors in formal news conferences, according to CNN's count.
When asked whether Biden regularly presented himself the way he presented himself at the debates, Jean-Pierre recalled the speech that the American leader gave in North Carolina the day after the debate.
“He understands that he is an old man. What he will focus on will continue to reach the American people regarding the issues that concern them,” the speaker says.
Jean-Pierre reiterated that Biden was sick last Thursday and still has a cold. She said the president did not take cold medicine before the debate. She said the administration is “not at all” withholding information about the president's health or ability to do his job.
On June 27, the debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump took place in the United States. It was the ex-president who was named the winner of the debate by 67% of viewers, and the current head of state – by 33%. It was for him that the discussions turned out to be a failure.
