According to Kirby, the United States does not plan to change the policy.
The White House said it would not lift restrictions on the Armed Forces of Ukraine to strikes on Russia with American weapons after the attack on the Okhmatdyt children's hospital on July 8.
National Security Advisor John Kirby said this during a briefing.
When asked by reporters whether the brutal Russian attack changes the US position on allowing attacks directly on Russian airfields from which such attacks are carried out, Kirby answered in the negative.
“There have been no changes in our policy. The Ukrainians could use American weapons to strike across the border. The permission is still in force,” he noted.
At the end of May, the Biden administration gave Ukraine permission to carry out strikes inside Russia using weapons provided by the United States. However, although the US policy of allowing Ukraine to fire certain types of US weapons into Russia has led to a decrease in Russian attacks, it still limits the range of strikes enough to prevent Ukraine from hitting key enemy airfields.
