The US will try to keep some Russian banks in the SWIFT system. In particular, we are talking about organizations through which payments for energy supplies are made. This intention was announced by a high-ranking representative of the US administration, RIA Novosti reports.

When asked about how it is planned to minimize the consequences of disconnecting a number of Russian banks from SWIFT for the global energy market, the official replied that the authorities were trying to find out if the system could determine the type of payment. If the payment is made for energy carriers, then it will be exempted from restrictions.

The second option involves “a smart approach to the selection of institutions for” dewiftization “”. “We know through which banks most of the energy flows are paid. If we choose this approach, we can simply select institutions through which energy flows for the most part do not pass,” he added.

Earlier, Western countries agreed to disconnect Russian banks from SWIFT. The German Cabinet clarified that organizations under sanctions will be excluded. Also, “if necessary” their list can be expanded.
