The third world war will be fought with the use of high technologies: hypersonic undetectable missiles. In this case, the Internet will be disconnected in the first seconds. Such a possible scenario of a hypothetical conflict in a conversation with the BBC was described by Western experts.
In their opinion, the United States, China and Russia will take part in the war. At the same time, Moscow and Beijing will attack with missiles, the speed of which is 27 times the speed of sound, so the charges cannot be detected. In this area, Washington is far behind potential rivals, according to the experts interviewed.
The experts emphasized that technology has now become a battleground: Russia and China are investing a lot in this area. At the same time, government spending on traditional defenses is decreasing in favor of digital technologies. For example, artificial intelligence can dramatically speed up decision-making and response times for commanders, allowing them to process information much faster, says Meia Nouvens, senior fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).
According to experts, in the event of the start of full-scale hostilities, the sides would try to block the enemy's lines of communication: by destroying satellites or underwater cables. “Great powers are actively investing not only in offensive cyber capabilities, but also in electronic warfare capabilities that can jam satellites and disrupt communications. Thus, not only the military, but society as a whole, will be the main target in a future conflict, ”said Franz-Stefan Gadi, Future Warfare Specialist at the IISS.
In mid-November, General John Hayten, deputy chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, spoke about the tests of a hypersonic missile in China. According to him, the ammunition dropped a hypersonic gliding unit, which was able to hit a target in China.
