The West commented on possible sanctions against Russia and told what areas they might affect. This is reported by Izvestia.

According to the publication, the restrictions may affect the work of embassies and the export of weapons. “Right now, we can’t presume anything, but nothing is ruled out. We continue to closely consult with our European colleagues about the serious consequences for Russia if it continues to invade Ukraine, ”a representative of the US State Department commented on the situation. Izvestia's source in the European Parliament said that restrictive measures would be directed against the main economic sectors of Russia – energy, chemical industry and electronics.

Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, said in response that the West is too hopeful for sanctions, but they only provoke a conflict in Ukraine. “Sanctions will not have the value they expect. Over the years, Russia has already learned how to overcome restrictive measures,” he stressed.

Earlier it was reported that the countries of the Group of Seven (G7) are ready to impose tough economic sanctions against Moscow in the event of an invasion of Russian forces into Ukraine. The G7 finance ministers' statement stressed that the states intend to act quickly and decisively to support the Ukrainian economy, as well as support efforts to de-escalate tensions with Moscow through diplomatic dialogue.
