The Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS) has denied that the vaccine will be able to defeat the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic in 2021. Universal vaccinations will take a long time, so other measures to contain COVID-19 must be resorted to. This was announced in a press release on MedicalXpress.
AAHMS, which includes 400 leading researchers, has published a report outlining the next steps to respond to the spread of the infection. Although vaccines have shown 90% effectiveness, their production, transportation and use will be difficult and expensive, and vaccination of most of the population will not be possible until the end of next year.
Therefore, scientists believe that it is necessary to follow a whole range of measures to cope with the coronavirus. These include universal testing, self-isolation, quarantine, social distancing, wearing masks, as well as treatment and well-administered vaccinations.
Earlier, UK Health Minister Matthew Hancock said that a new strain of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus had been discovered in the country, which spreads faster than the original form.
