US Vice President Kamala Harris said that the country needs to reform the electoral law, otherwise the United States will cease to be an example of democracy for the whole world. TASS reports.

In an interview with CBS, Harris cited the reason for the reform, expressing the view that people around the world are watching the United States because they “have shown themselves to be an example of the ability of democracy to coexist with economic strength and power.” However, she warned, if Congress does not pass legislation aimed at changing the country's suffrage, the US could “wipe itself off [the world's] map as an example to follow” if it “allows people to destroy one of the most important pillars of democracy.”

At the same time, Harris acknowledged that this problem is not the main concern for many Americans, but stressed that this should be the case.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden criticized Republican senators blocking the electoral reform bill in the country and called for a vote. He pointed out that the provisions of the bill passed through the Senate five times with overwhelming bipartisan support.

Republican senators have already blocked the consideration of a Democratic bill on electoral system changes, including expanding opportunities for voter registration, mail-order and early voting, on three occasions.
