According to the newspaper, the Vatican is increasingly talking about a new conclave. Pope's possible abdication was raised after he underwent surgery. In addition, in December the pontiff will turn 85 years old – the same age as his predecessor Benedict XIV, when he abdicated the throne.
On July 4, the 84-year-old head of the Catholic Church underwent elective surgery for diverticular disease of the sigmoid colon. The surgery was performed under general anesthesia at the Policlinico Gemelli Hospital in Rome. The operation lasted almost three hours and was successful.
On January 30, Pope Francis was advised to go on a diet. It was reported that the pontiff, known for his good appetite, would have to give up eating pasta, as well as flour – bread, pizza and any sweets, including cakes and pastries.
