US Administration: Russia's Potential Action Will Move NATO, Not Distance From Its Borders

A US administration official said Russia's potential actions in Ukraine would bring NATO military closer to its borders, not away from them. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.
“If Russia moves ahead in what may already be happening, we and our allies are ready to impose a tough price that will damage the Russian economy and lead to exactly what it does not want – more NATO potential is closer, not further from the Russian borders. We conveyed this directly to Russia, including through Presidents Biden and Putin, ”the official stressed.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on the Russian authorities to make a gift to Western countries and provide them with a peaceful Christmas, withdrawing troops from the borders with Ukraine. “Russia has the opportunity to make Christmas for all of us peaceful and calm … It is obvious that Russia is the aggressor, not Ukraine,” he is convinced.
On December 17, it was reported that the North Atlantic Alliance is ready for constructive negotiations with Russia in the near future. The NATO representative recalled that Moscow was invited to a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council, which will be held shortly. He also pointed out that all member countries of the organization familiarized themselves with the proposals submitted by the Russian side on security guarantees.
