The US warned Hungary against “close relations” with Russia

The US Ambassador to Hungary said that Budapest is taking steps that “cannot be ignored.”

United States Ambassador toHungary David Pressman warned Budapest against the dangers of close cooperation with the Russian regime.

This is reported by Radio Liberty.

Pressman said Hungary is a long-time ally but is doing things that undermine Budapest's credibility, concerns shared by Hungary's NATO allies that “cannot be ignored.”

The concern centers on a government “stalking and treating the United States as an 'adversary' while making policy decisions that increasingly isolate it from friends and allies,” he said.

The diplomat stressed that the United States “cannot ignore the speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, who claims that Putin’s war in Ukraine is in fact “led by the United States.”

“We cannot understand or agree that the Prime Minister defines the United States as Hungary’s “main adversary,” the ambassador explained.

He noted that the allies are warning Hungary about the danger of close relations with Moscow, but if it is still a political decision by the Hungarian authorities, then “then we must decide how best to protect our interests in the matter of security.”

The Ambassador also recalled that Budapest has repeatedly called on the United States and other allies to stop helping Ukraine defend itself from Russian aggressors.

“The United States also wants peace. We want this war to end. But Hungary's proposal is not true,” the diplomat said.

The US Ambassador said that the US wants to improve relations with Hungary, but Budapest has not yet agreed to this.

We recall that it was previously reported that Hungary on Tuesday summoned the US ambassador after the statement of American leader Joe Biden that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban “strives for dictatorship” < /strong>.

In addition, we previously informed that Hungary is against the appointment of Rutte as NATO Secretary General.
