The US Charge d’affaires in Ukraine, Kristina Queen, said that Ukraine is taking the necessary steps to become a member of NATO. She stated this on the air of the program “Freedom of Speech of Savik Shuster”, broadcast on YouTube.

She also called on Ukraine to continue its path to NATO. “When the alliance was going to talk, when Russia’s proposals were being considered, all 30 members said they rejected Russia’s idea that it should decide for Ukraine, and also agreed that the open door policy should be preserved,” Queen said.

The Charge d’affaires added that this policy should continue and the United States is happy that Ukraine wants to follow this path. “Ukraine is taking the necessary steps to become a member of NATO. Have they already been made? No. But they provide that Ukraine will do everything necessary to eventually join NATO,” she said.

Queen also said that Ukraine should have “a little patience” to continue working and using the tools that already exist.

Earlier, NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Joane said that Ukraine’s entry into the alliance in the near future is impossible. He also stated that for Ukraine’s membership in NATO, there must be a consensus in the alliance, which is currently absent. Joane added that NATO supports Kiev, but is not going to take part in military operations in the country.
