The US State Department called the suspension of consular services abroad for Ukrainian men of mobilization age a “difficult issue.”
This was stated by the official representative of the US diplomatic department in Brussels, Daniel Isaac, in a commentary to Radio Liberty.
“It’s a difficult question, it’s clear what to do especially with men who are now outside Ukraine. But the Ukrainian government has the right to determine its policy. There is still no decision or position from the US government – to help or not to help Ukraine in this area,” answered a State Department representative when asked whether the United States would help Ukraine in returning the men home.
Sizek also added that the fate of Ukrainian citizens is first and foremost her case, and noted that the Ukrainian government should “carefully act on this issue.”
“It is clear that the Armed Forces of Ukraine need people to defend the country… This is a complex question and it is difficult to say. It is important that Europe, and to a certain extent the USA too, welcomed the Ukrainians, who decided that they and their families needed to leave Ukraine, and this was another important part of European support, for example, it is right that the Ukrainian government needs to study the situation intensively and seriously.
Recall that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine recently suspended the provision of consular services to men liable for military service living abroad, except for the preparation of documents for returning to Ukraine.< /p>
And already on April 24, the Cabinet of Ministers made changes according to which prohibited the sending of passports abroad. Conscripts can receive them only on the territory of Ukraine. Subsequently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the ban on obtaining passports abroad applies only to the State Enterprise “Document”.
