According to him, the United States also sees no reason to adjust its own nuclear position after Vladimir Putin’s comments.
The head of the Kremlin previously stated that if the American military were brought into Ukraine, Russia would “treat them as invaders.” At the same time, Putin repeated the Kremlin narrative that Russia “cannot be defeated on the battlefield, the West supposedly understood this.”
However, a US official said the dictator “appears to be repeating Russia's nuclear doctrine” that they will use nuclear weapons if their sovereignty is threatened.
In addition, White House National Security Council Speaker Adrienne Watson stated that “Russia’s nuclear rhetoric has been reckless and irresponsible during its war against Ukraine.”
“It was Russia that brutally invaded Ukraine without provocation or justification, and we will continue to support Ukraine as it defends its people and its sovereign territory from Russian aggression,” the speaker emphasized.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also responded to Vladimir Putin’s statement that Russia “theoretically” could use nuclear weapons if there is a threat to its territorial integrity or existence, but it does not need to.
Recall that Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the Russian Federation is “ready for nuclear war.”
Speaker of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Andrei Yusov said that nuclear weapons are first of all “a weapon of deterrence, a kind of last trump card in the war.” < /p>
