Foreign media outlets are stressing that one of Iran's three nuclear facilities was probably not hit by the US's most powerful weapon.
Iran has lost the ability to create nuclear weapons. This happened after recent airstrikes by the US military
US Vice President J.D. Vance made this statement, according to reports CNN and The Guardian.
“Iran was very close to having a nuclear weapon. Now Iran is not capable of doing so with the equipment it had because we destroyed it,” the American official emphasized.
CNN notes that Vance avoided directly answering a question about whether President Donald Trump's administration knows where Iran's highly enriched uranium is stored, saying “it's not a critical question.” After all, Vance added, “the uranium is buried.”
In turn, foreign media emphasize that despite Trump’s statements about the complete destruction of key nuclear facilities, some of them, including one of the three, were probably not hit by the most powerful US weapons. This casts doubt on the full effectiveness of the operation.
The aim of the strike, the US vice president says, was to destroy Iran's ability to enrich uranium and make it impossible to build a nuclear weapon. That was achieved, Vance added.
Recall that last night the US military struck three Iranian nuclear facilities – Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. The Pentagon said that the Iranian nuclear program was destroyed, so these strikes were not directed against the army or the people of the country.
It should be noted that in response, Iran launched 6 missiles at the US Al Udeid base in Qatar. This is the largest US military base in the Middle East.
Almost a day later, US President Donald Trump said that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire in six hours, after they had completed all current operations. In addition, the head of the White House said that Tehran should be the first to begin introducing a ceasefire between the parties.
