“Today, OFAC imposed sanctions against ten organizations and four individuals based in Iran, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Indonesia that support Iran's production of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs),” the statement noted.
The network reportedly purchased hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of components from the United States and other countries and provided them to an organization affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
“Iran's illicit production and transfer of deadly UAVs to its terrorist proxies in the Middle East, as well as to Russia, contributes to heightened tensions, continued conflicts, and undermines stability,” said Brian Nelson, Under Secretary of the Treasury for Counterterrorism and Financial Intelligence.
In addition, the US Department of Justice announced charges against the organizer of this network, Hossein Hatefi Ardakani, as well as his accomplice Gary Lem, associated with the purchase of components from the United States.
