Such a move would also indicate a new level of desperation for Russia, the US believes.
This week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused North Korea of handing over troops to the Russian armed forces. He said his intelligence services had informed him of North Korea's “effective participation in the war” in Ukraine.
Reuters reported this.
In a statement, White House National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett said North Korean troops' involvement in Ukraine would represent a significant strengthening of the defense relationship between North Korea and Russia.
“Such a move would also signal a new level of desperation for Russia as it continues to suffer significant battlefield losses in its brutal war against Ukraine,” – said Savett.
Meanwhile, Washington claims that North Korea has supplied Russia with ballistic missiles and ammunition. Moscow and Pyongyang have denied arms supplies, but have promised to strengthen military ties, possibly including joint exercises.
Earlier, we wrote that the North Korean dictator could send a certain number of low-value soldiers to help the Russian army, who would be thrown into “meat assaults” if necessary.
