Sanctions will be imposed due to the repression of ethnic and religious minorities in China.

The United States will restrict visas to Chinese officials due to their involvement in “repressive actions” against ethnic and religious minority groups.

This was announced on Monday, March 21, by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, reports Reuters.

The chairman of the US State Department did not name the names of officials who will be restricted from entering, but stressed that they are responsible for or involved “in the repression of those who profess certain religions and spiritual practices, representatives of ethnic minority groups, dissidents , human rights activists, journalists, trade unionists, representatives civil society and peaceful protesters in China and abroad.”

“The United States condemns the actions of Chinese officials who harass, intimidate, control, and kidnap members of ethnic and religious minorities, including those seeking safety for abroad, as well as US citizens speaking on behalf of these vulnerable populations,” the State Department said in a statement.

Recall that earlier, US President Joe Biden, in a conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, warned him of the consequences for the country , if the PRC provides material assistance to Russia, which unleashed a war in Ukraine.
