The United States will receive from Canada “hunters” for Russian submarines

The MH-60R Seahawk helicopters of the US Navy will receive Magnetic Anomaly Detection-Extended Role (MAD-XR) detectors manufactured by the Canadian company CAE, The Drive reports.

The publication writes that this equipment will help in the “hunt” for potentially enemy submarines, primarily Russian and Chinese. “The decision to add this equipment to the new Seahawk was made as Russia and China continue to develop and deploy better submarines and intensify their submarine activities in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the Arctic region,” notes The Drive.

The CAE report says the MAD-XR is a highly sensitive magnetometer designed to detect changes in the Earth's magnetic field and used as a sensor to detect submarines. The detection range of anomalies with the 1.5-kilogram MAD-XR is 1.2 kilometers. This system allows for joint operation with hydroacoustic buoys.

The American corporation Lockheed Martin is responsible for integrating this equipment into the MH-60R Seahawk.

In March, The Aviationist recalled that the specialists of the Russian design bureau Kamov disinterestedly gave Soviet technologies to the designers of the American company AVX, which helped the latter to develop the project of the Compound Coaxial Helicopter (CCH) reconnaissance and attack helicopter.

In December 2018, captain of the third rank of the reserve Maxim Klimov noted that the Russian Navy (Navy) does not have modern means of detecting low-noise American military submarines.
