Key employees of the American embassy in Ukraine will remain in the country, despite the urgent evacuation of the diplomatic mission. This was announced by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, his words are quoted by TASS.
“A team of key personnel will remain in Ukraine and, together with our Ukrainian colleagues, intend to work hard to resolve the crisis through diplomacy and reduce tensions,” Blinken said.
During a speech at a press conference in the US state of Hawaii, the Secretary of State recalled that on February 12, the US ordered that most Americans still in the US embassy in Kiev leave Ukraine. He noted that he considers such a measure justified in the current tension.
Earlier, the US Embassy in Ukraine reported that the State Department had ordered non-critical diplomats to leave Kiev. In addition, the State Department began to remove some of the secret equipment and documentation from its embassy in Kiev due to the unpredictability of the situation in Ukraine.
