US President Joe Biden warned Russian President Vladimir Putin about the consequences that await him in the event of a Russian attack on Ukraine. This was stated on December 7 by the adviser to the President of the United States for national security Jake Sullivan.
He stressed that the main topic of the talks was Ukraine. During the video call, Biden told President Putin that if the Russian Federation & # 8220; takes steps & # 8221; against Ukraine, the United States will respond with tough economic sanctions and expand military assistance to Ukraine.
In addition, in the event of an escalation, the United States will have to strengthen NATO's eastern flank.
At the same time, Joe Biden told Putin that there is another option for the development of events – de-escalation and diplomacy.
– We still do not believe that President Putin has made a decision. What President Biden did today is that he very clearly outlined the consequences if he decides to move, said Jake Sullivan.
In addition, he stressed that the United States is ready to support efforts to resolve the situation in Donbass within the framework of the Minsk agreements.
Earlier, the White House published the first details of the talks between the heads of the United States and Russia, according to which Biden expressed deep concern on behalf of America and European allies about the escalation of Russian troops on the Ukrainian border.
Joe Biden plans to discuss the results of negotiations with the leaders of European countries and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
