Germany insisted on deploying American weapons on its territory, and not somewhere else in Europe.
The United States will deploy Tomahawk cruise missiles and the latest long-range hypersonic weapons, which are currently only undergoing testing, in Germany. The so-called “long-range fire weapons” will be deployed on German territory from 2026. The deployment will be temporary at first and then permanent.
Der Spiegel reports this, citing statements from Washington and Berlin.
It is noted that the Tomahawk or SM-6 cruise missiles will have a “much greater range” than the weapons systems currently existing in Europe.
The White House stated that the deployment of high-tech military capabilities demonstrates “the close ties of the United States with NATO and its contribution to European deterrence.”
According to the publication, when discussing this plan, Berlin insisted on the deployment of American long-range weapons in Germany.
The weapons that the United States plans to deploy, will be able to hit targets located at a distance of up to 2,500 kilometers. Such military potential will allow NATO to attack targets deep inside Russian territory. Currently, Europe does not have the potential to carry out so-called “deep precision strikes.”
“These plans are a clear sign of how seriously the United States and the German government take the threat in Europe. Washington withdrew all long-range weapons from Germany in the late 1990s,” the publication noted.
Recall that the President of Slovakia complained that NATO will be left without air defense because of Ukraine. At the same time, he confirmed that Bratislava will take part in the overall NATO package for Ukraine worth 40 billion dollars.
