480 advanced high-precision bombs with a nuclear charge will enter service in four years.
The USA has completed the assembly of the first serial guided thermonuclear bomb B61 -12 Life Extension Program (LEP). This modernized ammunition received a warhead with a capacity of 50 kilotons and became manageable: tail rudders were installed on the bomb, which will significantly increase its accuracy.
This was reported by the US National Nuclear Security Administration.
The B61-12 bomb has been in development since 2012. In 2018, the Nuclear Safety Authority defended her project, but the design of a number of off-the-shelf parts was not durable. Since then, improvements and tests have continued. In November of this year, the first production B61-12 rolled off the assembly line.
Full-scale serial production of new nuclear bombs should begin next May and be completed by 2026. It is planned that 480 B61-12 bombs will be added to the arsenal of the US armed forces during this time. The upgraded ammunition must last at least 20 years.
Recall that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu accused the United States of allegedly practicing a nuclear strike against Russia in two different directions – from the west and east.
