Ukraine and the United States are negotiating a possible transfer of military aid to Kiev, which was intended for Afghanistan, but is no longer in demand there. Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova announced this in an interview with Radio Liberty (included by the Russian Ministry of Justice in the register of foreign agents).
She explained that the issue of receiving military assistance by the Ukrainian side is being actively discussed by Kiev and Washington. According to the diplomat, Ukraine is currently working on expanding such a list.
In late December, a senior US administration official announced the US’s readiness to expand military aid to Kiev in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine. In addition, the United States intends to respond to Moscow, including with the help of sanctions against the Russian economic and financial systems and by strengthening NATO's positions in the east.
The last delivery of weapons in the framework of military assistance to Ukraine from the United States was made in December 2021. At the same time, the American side is constantly assessing the possibilities for additional military assistance, said Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried.
