The United States wanted to ban firearms

US President Joe Biden has called on Congress to step up efforts to ban or tighten gun controls. He is quoted by Reuters.

“I don’t want to wait a minute or an hour before taking action to save lives. I call on my colleagues in the House of Representatives and the Senate to take active action, ”the politician said. Biden also wanted to re-ban high-capacity assault weapons. In his opinion, this is one of the best ways to prevent violence.

“As your president, I promise I will clear the streets of these weapons of war,” Biden concluded.

The American leader's proposal came against the backdrop of the tragedy in Colorado, which became the second case of mass shooting in the United States in one week. The first incident killed ten people, the second – a shooting occurred in Atlanta, Georgia – eight people were killed.

Numerous cases of mass shooting in the United States have still not led to the adoption of a gun control law. Reuters points out that this is largely due to the opposition of Republicans in Congress. The right to bear arms is enshrined in the Second Amendment to the US Constitution, and many Americans value it.

At the same time, according to polls, about 70 percent of Americans support the introduction of strict restrictions on the carrying of weapons.
