Mevlut Cavusoglu
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called on Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu to abandon the Russian S-400 missile systems. His words are reported by TASS.
Cavusoglu, in turn, indicated that the deal with Russia is “a completed deal.” “We reminded him again why Turkey bought the S-400 from Russia. The complexes have been purchased, and now the issue is closed, ”the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.
It is noted that the Turkish Foreign Minister and the US Secretary of State held their first personal meeting in Brussels.
In March, Turkey warned the US of the consequences of pressure over the S-400. According to the official representative of the Turkish President Ibrahim Kalyn, such attempts may have undesirable consequences for Washington.
The deliveries of the S-400, which caused a crisis in relations between Turkey and the United States, began in mid-July 2019. Washington demanded to abandon the deal and purchase American Patriot complexes in return, threatening to delay or even cancel the sale of fifth-generation F-35 fighters to Ankara.
