The United States has ceased to be a party to the Open Skies Treaty since Sunday, November 22. TASS reports.
On May 21, Washington sent a notification to the other countries participating in the document to terminate the treaty. The United States explained its position by the fact that Moscow allegedly does not comply with the points of this agreement. In particular, the White House said that during flights over the United States, Russia monitored the whereabouts of the American president. Moscow rejects Washington's accusations
From this day on, the United States cannot make inspection flights over the territories of the countries parties to the treaty, as well as gain access from them to the data obtained during the flights.
The Open Skies Treaty was signed in 1992. According to the document, the participating countries can make reconnaissance flights over each other's territory in order to monitor military activities and compliance with existing treaties in the field of arms control.
