The United States is ready for dialogue with Russia, but will uphold the principle of “open doors” in NATO. This was stated by a high-ranking representative of the American administration, his words are quoted by TASS.

“I think we have been quite consistent on this issue and will continue to be consistent on the absolute importance of the open door principle, as well as the principle that sovereign countries should choose their own security alliances,” the official stressed.

He added that Washington had made it clear to Moscow that it was ready for cooperation and open to diplomacy.

The statement was made at a briefing on the forthcoming visit of US Vice President Kamala Harris to the Munich Security Conference. There, she will make a speech on the situation around Russia and Ukraine and discuss with European politicians the deployment of American forces in NATO countries and support for Ukraine.

Earlier, the head of the Russian delegation at the talks in Vienna on military security and arms control, Konstantin Gavrilov, expressed concern that NATO was drawing neutral countries into its orbit through military exercises. According to him, integration tendencies objectively destabilize the situation, in particular in the north of the continent.
