Anthony Blinken

The United States will cooperate with Russia only in areas where it is in their national interests. Such conditions for working with Moscow were revealed by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, TASS reports his words.

Blinken explained that one such area is strategic stability. As an example, the diplomat cited the countries' extension of the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START, unofficial name – START-3).

Earlier, White House press secretary Jen Psaki also mentioned the extension of START III, referring to the points of contact between US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. According to her, the heads of the two states agree that it is necessary to look for ways to continue cooperation in those areas where the national interests of the two countries coincide.

A new crisis broke out in relations between Russia and the United States after US President Joe Biden said in an interview with ABC News that he wanted to hold the Russian state accountable for alleged interference in the US elections. He spoke about a conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and added that he would pay if he was found guilty. In the same conversation, Biden made a harsh statement about the Russian president.

Moscow and Washington exchanged notes on the extension of the START Treaty on February 3. The missile treaty will operate as signed until February 5, 2026.
