The Seventh Fleet of the US Navy rejects the claim that the destroyer John McCain was “driven” from the territory of any country. This was stated in the organization, RIA Novosti reports.
On November 24, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the large anti-submarine ship “Admiral Vinogradov” expelled the intruder who had invaded Russian waters.
“Russia's statement is not true. The ship “John McCain” was not “expelled” from any national territory, ”the American side said.
Earlier, the fleet command said that “John McCain” participated in the operation to ensure freedom of navigation (FONOP), which “made it possible to question the excessive Russian territorial claims.” The action was intended to show that the United States does not fully recognize the Peter the Great Gulf as part of Russian territorial waters and does not agree that this gulf has a legal historical status.
