The White House refused to specify the sanctions that could be imposed against Russia if it recognizes the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DNR and LNR). About it writes RIA Novosti.

“I won’t list them from here,” said US administration spokeswoman Jen Psaki, commenting on the sanctions for recognizing Donbass.

She also cited a statement by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who warned the Russian Federation that the United States would consider the step that the State Duma asked the Kremlin to take as a rejection of the Minsk agreements and a violation of international law.

On February 15, during the rating voting, the deputies decided to immediately appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin with the question of the need to recognize the DPR and LPR. According to parliamentarians, there are about 800,000 Russian citizens in the Donbass and Russia is “obliged under the Constitution” to provide them with assistance.

Commenting on the proposal, Putin said that the State Duma is guided by the opinion of voters, who for the most part sympathize with Donbass and hope for a change in the situation in the region for the better.
