John Sullivan

US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan spoke about the refusal to ease sanctions against Moscow over Crimea. He stated this in an interview with Dozhd TV channel.

So, according to the speaker, the States and their allies and partners do not intend to weaken the sanctions imposed in connection with the situation in Ukraine and around Crimea.

Sullivan also added that the problem related to actions in Ukraine remains a priority for the US administration. He clarified that Congress and the executive branch of government consider territorial changes unacceptable without compliance with the law.

Earlier in January, US Treasury candidate Janet Yellen pledged to maintain sanctions against Russia over Crimea. “I am committed to the rigorous implementation of sanctions aimed at Russian players for territorial aggression in eastern Ukraine and Crimea and other threats to US national security,” she said.

Anti-Russian sanctions from the United States, the European Union and a number of other countries were introduced in connection with the entry of Crimea into Russia in 2014 and the aggravation of the situation in southeastern Ukraine. Economic restrictions are regularly extended.
