The United States will respond to the expulsion of the deputy head of the American embassy in Moscow, Bart Gorman, from Russia. This was stated by representatives of the diplomatic mission in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

“We consider Russia's actions against the deputy head of the diplomatic mission to be an escalation step and we are considering the possibility of a response. Deputy Ambassador Gorman had a valid visa and had been in Russia for less than three years,” Jason Rebholtz, press officer at the US embassy, promised.

The US Embassy stressed that Gorman kept a valid visa. It is noted that the diplomat was “the second person of the embassy and one of the key members of his team.”

The expulsion of Gorman became known after the visit of US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan to the Foreign Ministry. He left the office building 15 minutes later without comment.

Prior to this, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow was ready to send a response to US proposals on security guarantees on February 17. According to him, it will be published in a few hours after being sent to Washington.
